After teaming up with his former student Phil Knight, the project gave birth to the company Nike, which celebrated its breakthrough at the 1972 Olympic Games. Major accomplishments in the company’s history include the signing of exceptional basketball talent Michael Jordan and the introduction of Nike Air® visible cushioning in the Nike Air Max 1. The Nike Mag auto-lacing sneaker played a central role in the ‘80s movie classic “Back to the Future”. Nike’s chief designer Tinker Hatfield recently turned this dream into reality with the introduction of the first self-lacing shoe employing the Nike E.A.R.L. technology, heralding the future of sneaker design.
